Ways to Look Younger with Makeup
It’s difficult to turn back the aging clock once it begins ticking. Trying to achieve that youthful look with makeup is even more challenging – but it can be done with these tips and tricks to help make you look ageless!
Tip 1: First things first – remember to moisturize! Before applying any makeup – apply a moisturizer to damp skin. We have talked about the best way to moisturize you skin before – just in case you need to review it again, read about it in our article on Moisturizers.
Tip 2: Conceal imperfections. Aging skin needs more concealer. But concealer tends to accentuate fine lines and wrinkles. Avoid that look by using a liquid cover-up. One of the best sellers is Yves Saint Lauren’s Touch Eclat Concealer ® This instant highlighter is a must-have take-anywhere pen-brush for banishing shadows and signs of fatigue from the eye area, the hollow of the chin, the contour of the lips and the sides of the nose.
Tip 3: Use a yellow-tinted foundation. That’s right, yellow! This tone warms up the skin which makes it look younger. Not your skin color – yellow tined foundations work well on Asian and black skin tones as well.
Trick 1: For the best application of foundation for aging skin – use a makeup wedge. Wet the sponge with water and squeeze it out. Put the foundation on the back of your hand and using the sponge, pick up the foundation and dab it on your skin! Apply more where your need more coverage. This give the skin a more natural look (rather than solid block everywhere). Take care not to apply too much over and around the eye area – it will cake up on you!
Tip 4: Unless you have flawless, tight, toned skin – do not use powder. If you must set your foundation with powder, use a translucent, light-diffusing powder.
Tip 5: Placing blush on the ‘apples’ of your cheeks works great when you are young and you have ‘apples’. As we age, the volume in our cheeks diminishes – so place blush along the highest point of your cheekbones instead. This highlights your bone structure.
Tip 6: Stop tweezing your brows (except to capture the odd stray). If you must shape your brows, let your Aesthetician do it.
Trick 2: For that youthful look, fill in your brows with a pencil or matching color eye shadow. If you use a pencil, select one that’s a shade lighter than your brows and apply it at a 45 degree angle. This gives a softer, more natural look.
Tip 7: Prime your eyelids. Patting a little eyelid primer or shadow base before applying eye color prevents the color from creasing in the (let’s say it) wrinkles and lines. Creasing and caking, highlights the lines and wrinkles.
Tip 8: Curl your eyelashes. Age you age your eyelashes flatten and straighten. Curling your eyelashes makes your eyes look bigger and brighter.
Trick 3: Open your eyes even more with eyeliner. If you already use eyeliner, it’s probably black. Switch to a brown eyeliner. It will have the same effect of opening the eye, but it will not look as harsh. Once applied, soften the liner with a pointed Q-tip for a more natural look.
Tip 9: Now for the lips. As we age, our lips loose volume (like everything else). Thin lips look best when they are treated to shades that enhance your natural lip color. Dark lip colors make the mouth appear smaller. Select a shade that’s somewhere between your natural lip color and a berry shade.
Trick 4: Prevent bleeding of lip color select a lip stain, instead of a cream lipstick. Top it off with a clear gloss or lip balm to keep the lips looking moist and hydrated.
Tip 10: Use a highlighter to add dimension. Apply a very sheer formula on your brow bones, your cheek bones or your lips to add a very subtle, youthful appearance of dimension. For light skin, select champagne shades, and golden beige for medium to dark skin tones.
