Managing the Triggers that Cause Rosacea Flare-ups
We all want to look our best for special occasions, but for those coping with the signs and symptoms of Rosacea, that can be extra-challenging.
If you suffer from Rosacea, here are some tips to help you look your best before and after any special event, an evening out, or just because! It may be hard to avoid some of the triggers that cause a flare-up, but simply knowing about them may help minimize your incidents of flare-ups at a time when you want to look your best.
Extreme Weather: The extreme temperature changes in Winter can be tough on Rosacea suffers. Not only will cold weather and wind exposure trigger flare-ups, so will cozying up to the fireplace, sitting too close to a heater, or taking a hot shower to warm up. Avoid a flare-up by keeping your distance from the extreme heat of fires and heaters, and bundle up when heading outdoors.
Food: On your special night out, you may be surrounded by rich foods, tempting chocolates and other treats. Certainly enjoy a few tasty treats, but understand that they may trigger a flare up – so keep your skin calm on your special night by limiting these and your skin will thank you for it. Not everyone will have the same food related triggers, but knowing yours (so you can avoid them as much as possible), will keep your skin calm and looking it’s best.
Drinks: It’s unfortunate that many people believe that Rosacea is caused by alcohol abuse, but that’s simply not true. However, alcohol (especially red wine) and hot beverages can trigger Rosacea flare-ups. So be aware of your alcohol consumption and try reducing the temperature of hot beverages before drinking them.
Emotion: Special occasions can trigger delightful anticipation… and stress. For those who suffer with Roascea, just thinking about that special date can trigger a flare-up. Stay calm and practice simple stress management techniques to calm tension-fueled flare-ups – deep breathing exercises throughout the day will help to get symptoms under control.
So relax and enjoy your special occasion – you are going to look great!
