Types of Retinol Products

Retinol, a derivative of Vitamin A, is known for its amazing ability to dramatically improve the appearance of the skin.  Reinol was originally prescribed in high doses for the treatment of acne and keratosis pilaris,  a common skin condition in which a protein in the skin called keratin forms hard plugs within hair follicles.

Today, Retinol is often used as an anti-aging treatment to smooth away wrinkles, decrease fine lines, even out rough spots and bring back a natural color and tone to the skin – and yes, there are dozens of products to choose from. However, while the benefits of Retinol are proven, products containing the ingredient can have adverse affects, such as photosensitivity, skin dryness, redness and peeling, so take care when using these products.

Acne Treatments

Retinol acne treatments are amongst the best products to combat future breakouts as well as reducing acne scars. Use a combination treatment that combines antibacterial components with pore cleansing ingredients to beat acne.  Though retinol is a harsh form of Vitamin A (retinyl palmitate is a much gentler but equally effective form), it is certainly an effective tool in the fight against acne. Its action in clearing up stubborn outbreaks of acne is quite effective.

Creams

A Retinol cream is a product that is used to moisturize and condition skin as well as improve skin problems and blemishes such as acne, wrinkles and abnormal pigmentations. Creams are thicker than lotions but less oily and adherent than serums or oils. They should be applied in the evenings as part of a routine skin care application for maximum efficacy.

Lotions

Lotions are a more liquid form of creams. They are most commonly used to moisturize and nourish everyday dryness, reduce signs of aging and improve the look of sun damaged skin. Use these throughout the day, or anytime your skin feels dehydrated or itchy.  Best when applied after showering or bathing.

Serums

Serums are similar to creams in that they should be applied once per day, preferably in the evenings or at bedtime. However, serums tend to penetrate the layers of skin more powerfully than other forms of skin care products. With enhanced absorption greater benefits to the skin can be seen more quickly and dramatically. Try a serum for stubborn or problematic areas, especially wrinkles, photo damage and other signs of premature aging.

Oils

Products with an oil base can be used in place of lotions or creams.  Choosing one over the other is solely based on preference of the consistency and texture of the product. Try retinol oil products to decrease the signs of photo damage as well as premature aging brought on by the damage from various environmental factors.

Eye Treatments

The skin around the eyes is the thinnest skin on the body.    It is quite delicate and fragile and therefore needs to be treated differently. Use Retinol Eye Treatments to banish fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes.  Regular use will show a dramatic decrease in premature the appearance of aging and will leave the eye area radiant and younger-looking.

Hand Treatments

The hands are exposed to damaging elements on a regular basis. To return your hands and nails to a healthy state use a retinol hand treatment product that provides them with moisturizing and nourishing materials. With regular use, chapped hands become smooth, brittle nails turn strong and red, dry fingers become supple and soft.

Lip Treatments

Over time lips become thinner and drier.  Applying a Retinol based lip treatment each day will restore moisture and skin texture leaving the lips soft and smooth.
